Application for a new 2LD - health.nz

Published on 17 Jul 2008

An application has been received to create a new, moderated second level domain (2LD) - .health.nz.

Copies of the application, and the proposed moderation policy, can be seen at .pdf - /content//health_application.pdf
.txt - /content//health_application.txt
.html - /content//health_application.html

Comments are sought on this application, and on the moderation policy that will be used to accept registrations. In particular, comment is sought on how the application meets the criteria for a new 2LD, namely that the 2LD:

  • Represents an identifiable, significant community of interest; where:
    • 'significant' can mean either quantitatively or qualitatively; and
    • the community of interest can be defined in a clear written statement
  • Represents an on-going and long-lived community of interest
  • Does not conflict with, duplicate or cause confusion about, any existing 2LD, and is a useful addition to the current DNS hierarchy
  • Uses a name to represent the domain that is an obvious derivative of a word that properly describes the community of interest or a complete word.
  • Does not bring the .nz domain name space in disrepute

Proposed new moderated Second Level Domain .health.nz - Second Consultation

Published at 15:35 13 October 2008

The consultation period for the revised moderation policy for the proposed .health.nz second level domain has now closed.

Proposed new moderated Second Level Domain .health.nz - Second Consultation
Previously, comment has been sought on a proposal for a new moderated second level domain, .health.nz. As a result of seeking comments on the application, ten submissions were received. These can be read at /health-application. The submissions identified some issues with the Ministry of Health's initial moderation policy which were discussed with them. As a result, the moderation policy has been revised, and a further round of consultation is now taking place.

The revisions to the moderation policy include:
- clarification of the eligibility of organisations such as the Health and Disability Commissioner for .health.nz names;
- a process for the initial allocation of names, and how to manage similar names or abbreviations;
- a mechanism for dealing with objections relating to the allocation of .health.nz names; and
- criteria for how to remove names from the .health.nz domain.

We would welcome your views on the revised moderation policy, available at /content//moderation_policy_v2.pdf.
Submissions closed at midday on Monday 13 October. Submissions were published at /healthapplication-2ndconsult as they were received.
