System Unavailable << back
Published at 8:31am, 3rd October 2002

The new Shared Registry System (SRS) for the .nz domain name space is to be formally implemented at 1.00am on Monday 14 October 2002.

To prepare for this, the existing registry system will be unavailable from 10.00am on Saturday 12 October 2002. That means that from that time, it will not be possible to register any new domain names, or alter details about existing ones, until the SRS is implemented. Once the SRS is operational at 1am on 14 October, the normal services you use to register and amend domain names should be available to you.

The operation of your domain name, eg email and website, is not affected by this change. The Domain Name System (DNS) will continue to operate as usual, and the WHOIS function will remain available throughout the weekend.

We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.

This is the first part of a two-stage implementation of the SRS. From 14 October, .nz Registry Services (NZRS) will take responsibility for managing the .nz register with Domainz as the sole stabilising registrar. From 7 December 2002, those parties who have been authorised by the Domain Name Commissioner (DNC) will be able to connect to the SRS as registrars. A list of all the authorised registrars will be available on the DNC website from that time.

More information will be posted on the DNC website as the implementaiton of the SRS progresses. If you have any questions please email info@dnc.org.nz.
